Mary C. Casey founded The Harbor Law Group in 1997 following admittance to the Massachusetts Bar and has a distinguished career in management in the fields of engineering and high technology. Ms. Casey holds a law degree from Suffolk University Law School (cum laude), a degree in Biology and Chemistry from Worcester State University (summa cum laude), and a degree in Electrical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University (with highest distinction).

Before founding The Harbor Law Group, Ms. Casey worked in the corporate world and has senior level technical and management experience in biomedical research, medical and bio-electronic device design, fiber optics, and computer technology. The combination of having hands-on technical experience and legal expertise gives Ms. Casey a unique understanding of her clients’ business issues and needs, making her a highly skilled and effective counselor.

Ms. Casey has represented companies in Central Massachusetts, and she provides intellectual property services to clients around the country. Her client list includes companies in diverse fields that are catalysts for economic development and job creation in Massachusetts. They include the fields of biology and the life sciences, health care and pharmaceuticals, medical and dental devices, computer hardware and software development, website development and e-marketing, recreational and medical cannabis, architecture, microbrewing, metallurgy, transportation and logistics, and telecommunications.

Ms. Casey is an educator, published author, and public speaker. She is an Adjunct Professor of Intellectual Property Law at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, and lectures regularly to forums on assorted legal topics.

Ms. Casey is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Worcester County Bar Association where she served on the Executive Committee and received the President’s Award in recognition of her outstanding service and dedication. She is a long-time advisor to clients of the Small Business Development Center at Clark University and served on the Center for Entrepreneurship Advisory Committee at Worcester State University. Ms. Casey works with Greater Worcester Entrepreneurship for All (EforAll), a program that is accelerating economic and social impact in communities nationwide through inclusive entrepreneurship.

In the community, Ms. Casey works with 2GETHER We Eat, a hydroponic farming program that targets food deserts in the community. Currently, she is spearheading an effort to provide vocational education opportunities for students in Massachusetts.

Ms. Casey is a former member of the Board of Directors of NEADS, a non-profit organization that trains world-class service dogs, and was co-chair of the fundraising committee for the Shrewsbury Public Library renovation project.

Corporate: Purchase and Sale Transactions

  • Represented a satellite communication company in a majority interest acquisition by a multinational company
  • Represented a life science company, specializing in the provision of high quality research products such as apoptosis and proliferation assays, enzymes and antibodies, in an asset purchase transaction
  • Assisted several local microbreweries with federal, state and local permitting requirements and intellectual property protection
  • Represented a medical marijuana entrepreneur in negotiations with investors
  • Represented a textile engineering company in negotiations regarding an interest acquisition by an Asia-based supplier
  • Represented a Dual X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) services provider during its acquisition by a leading image and data management services company
  • Represented the buyer in an asset purchase transaction involving the acquisition of the U.S.-based marine rigging business of an international sailboat and powerboat hardware supplier
  • Represented the seller in an asset purchase transaction between two national staffing companies
  • Represented the majority shareholder of a leading health survey developer during its acquisition by one of the nation’s largest health insurance providers
